Word Press

Today we had a guest speaker show us how to use word press. For me this was surprisingly helpful. since i have been using this site for my blog for the past month I thought i understood somethings fairly well. However, it is always good to learn something new. I learned how to better navigate this site and get what I want from it. I worked on my final project. I created a fake teachers website and it was really fun. If you would like to view it click here.

Day 8:code

Today we spent most of our time on hour of code.com. I was actually really fun. I played the Anna and Elsa game making patterns. I also got to code in a dragon game to get passed obstacles. The rest of the time we looked at dream weaver and figured out how to create a link and embed a picture.

Day 7: Apps

Today when I arrived I recorded my podcast audio. I decided to read one of my favorite children’s books called “the Red Book”. After that we used the iPads to find apps that we could use in a lesson. I found a counting app that allowed me to demonstrate how to add with money. Then we were tasked with writing up a lesson plan and submitting it through our public html. After this we created our very own apps through ibuildapps.com. I made mine about a school called Wren Academe. Today was actually very helpful and I  may use some of these tools in the future.

Day 6: Podcasting

In class I finished my Google earth project. After we summarized points on technology on an Ohio education cite. Then we quizzed each other on socrative.com. Our questions needed to be multiple choice but not have a right answer. But for most of our class we were introduced to podcasts and garage band. We looked up podcasts on iTunes and found some cool tools to utilize in our teaching. The garage band program was fairly strain forward sinceI have used it before.

Day 5: Hodgepodge

The beginning of class was mostly a follow up about our google earth project. Next we went to the ISTE website and looked at the standards for teachers. In groups we paraphrased each standard and presented it to the class. My group did standard two “Design and develop digital age learning and experiences”. After we had a gust speaker named tyler come in and share about how to use web 2.0 in the classroom. He showed us storybird.com and I defiantly can see how this can be used to encourage students about writing at their level.  Next he showed us Prezi, a program I am very familiar with. I also liked Popplet.com because of how interactive and individualized it is for any student. they can click on what they are interested in. Ironically he showed us WordPress.com. I am using it for my blog right now! He briefly went over google docs but I use it all the time so I didn’t need much of an introduction to it. He also showed us socrative.com. I think this is so cool and would be so amazing in a classroom. The only thing I am weary of with these sites is the fact that young students can’t really read yet. This might make taking the socrative quiz difficult for them. At the end of class we finished presenting our standards and called it a day.

Day 4: lots of stuff

First i uploaded my picture collage to flickr for grading. Next we talked about iMovie and were tasked with making an educational trailer in 30 minutes. My group decided to illustrate the concept of adding negatives and getting a positive through a creative story about princess positive and the negative dragon. instead of filming people my group drew pictures and used them as props to tell the story. After that Denvy went over our google earth project and all the criteria. I have decided to do mine on the cascade mountains in Washington state, where I am from.

Day 3: Videos

Today was another 3 hour class. We began the day working on last weeks photoshop project and learning how to make a shadow. After we learned about IMovie and split into groups to make video about an idea. My group decided to take a different approach to this project and our topic is informing the viewers to stay inside on Friday the 13th. My group created a story board and called it a day.

Day 2 the wonders of photoshop

Yesterday I had my second interaction with tech and edu. It went well despite its unfortunate timing. We started off looking at photos and trying to decide if they were real or photoshopped. Over all it was fun to test yourself and guess which photos were real or fake. We spent a significant amount of time looking at a photo of a scientist and trying to guess if he was photoshopped into some photos. Afterwards we used flickr to find a photo and learned how to put it into photo shop. After this we learned how to scan a photo onto the computer. For the rest of the class Denvy gave us a a photo shop tutorial an we learned all about how to edit photos. Thats about it.

Day 1

As a future educator I am required to take certain classes such as Edu 270 (technology and education). I was a little nervous because technology and I don’t always see eye to eye. But I feel pretty good about this class so far. One our first day we got to know each other and looked over some interesting cites. first we talked about web 2.0 and how the internet is now interactive. Social media, blogs, and wiki are just a few examples of this.We also went to bighugelabs.com and compared it with free websites with the same teaching resources. We also looked briefly at go2web20.com and I found so many new resources via their collection of applications. However we spent most of our time getting familiar with the servers and setting up our bogs.
